Description

The AVR Robot Controller (ARC 1.1) was designed as the base controller for a high school Mini-Sumo robot project, and is used as the controller for the Seattle Robotics Society Workshop Robot. The controller is built around the powerful Atmel ATMEGA16 processor with 16kb of memory running at 8 MHz for an 8 mip processing speed (contrast this with a 20 MHz PIC which has a 3-4 mip equivalent speed or an 8mhz HC11 with about 1/2 mip equivalent speed). A 16 MHz crystal is included to allow doubling of the CPU speed. Pin compatible upgrades are available that double the memory. Schematic & programming instructions available in the SRS Workshop Robot manual (3.2M PDF).

ARC 1.1 specifications:

  • 2.4x3" board
  • 1k bytes SRAM, 16kb FLASH, In System Programmable
  • RS-232 port + DB-9 connector
  • Dual 1.1A motor drives, good to +25v
  • Dual Quadrature Encoder support on motor header
  • 8 x 10bit A/D channels
  • +5v Regulator on board
  • 9 Headers:
    • Programming/Options Select
    • Expansion (All CPU I/O + power)
    • Left Motor Driver (PWM) + Encoder input or Servo output
    • Right Motor Driver (PWM) + Encoder input or Servo output
    • Left, Middle and Right Floor Sensors (Digital input)
    • Left and Right Proximity Sensors (A/D input)
  • A parallel programming cable is included with kit. If your computer has a parallel port, no additional hardware is needed. If you do not have a parallel port, you will need to purchase a serial or USB AVR programmer separately (Please contact us for more details). Works with BASCOM and AvrDude programming software.
NOTE: This is the assembled version off the ARC 1.1. If you prefer, we also offer a kit version.
